About Us

Georgian Bay TourismThe Georgian Bay Tourism Group was formed in 1991 as the Midland-Penetanguishene Consortium in response to the need to build tourist visitations to the area.  Ten original members from the major hotels, attractions, and cruise companies agreed to fund a collective marketing effort for the area. This area is one of Canada's most significant historic resort destinations dating back 1000's of years with First Nations peoples past, the first European arrivals in the early 1600's.  As well the area has significant recreation resources with some of the best fresh water beaches, hiking trails, day cruise experiences, fishing, and winter sports.  The Southern Georgian Bay area is a four season destination with activities in the spring, summer, fall, and winter.

The mission is to drive tourism visitors to the area known as Southern Georgian Bay, increase overnight stays, and brand the area as a year round four-season destination.

Group marketing efforts target domestic and foreign markets by presenting a consistent image of the area with its natural beauty, culture, and early Canadian heritage.

Promotions focus on recreational, historical, spiritual, and geographical attractions, as well as on special events reflecting First Nations, and Franco-Ontarian, and Métis cultures.

In 2007 Georgian Bay Tourism received the Ambassador Award.  This award is presented by the Southern Georgian Bay Chamber of Commerce to an organization for economic development, promotion, growth and diversification within and outside the area. We are honoured by this recognition over the years and reaffirm our mission of working together in continued partnership to promote and increase tourism to the Southern Georgian Bay region.
